Temperature control of concrete is a necessity on large construction sites. Concrete cooling applications are frequently used during dam construction, nuclear power plant construction, airport construction, bridge construction, and new city construction.
The development of concrete strength is accompanied by the heat generated as the cement cures and hardens (heat of hydration). Hydration heat causes volume changes, which can lead to cracks. These volume changes will have undesirable consequences. To prevent and minimize this, temperature control and concrete cooling systems are required.
Because the initial installation and operating costs of such a cooling system are quite high, it is essential for the contractor to install an optimized concrete cooling system.
The concrete mix temperature is calculated based on the average temperature of the materials used in the concrete mix. Assuming an average of 170 liters of water is added to 1 m³ of concrete, reducing the water temperature by 1°C can reduce the mix temperature by approximately 11 degrees. If this decrease is insufficient, the next step is to reduce the amount of water and add ice. Ice plants and ice water systems commonly provide adequate cooling in concrete cooling systems. The heat absorbed by the ice from the mixture as it changes phase is of great importance. This heat exchange is called an endothermic reaction.
When ice water and ice are insufficient, aggregate cooling and sand cooling methods are used in concrete cooling systems.
Conventional chiller models cool the concrete cooling water to +7°C. Evanso's Ice Water system, developed by Evanso, cools the water in multiple stages to less than 1°C. In addition, it provides practical solutions for concrete cooling systems with its ice plants. Share your target temperature conditions and the temperatures of your materials with Evanso, and we select the most accurate and stable system for you and complete the turnkey installation on-site.
With water tank and ice storage systems, your cooling system is ready for production in insulated environments for sudden needs. Ice transfer and weighing systems ensure full compatibility with your concrete plant automation. Designed for maximum efficiency to minimize your costs and minimize your operating costs, it also provides a secure and efficient solution. Smart control systems provide online production and inventory tracking, fault and operating information, and always keep you informed.
